Curriculum Guide

My personal choice is to go with a full set of curriculum from www.calvertschool.org.  It does cost a lot but I love the format and how little time it takes for me to prepare.  All of my lesson plans are ready and the texts are great.  Recently I had an aunt who is a teacher from California come visit us and when she saw the texts she said that they were the same as what she used.  I was glad to hear from a professional that the texts I was using met state standards.  I also add things to our curriculum to enhance certain aspects.

Last year we had quite a problem with reading and writing at our house and my opinion was the Calvert curriculum did not offer enough writing.  My solution to this was to have my children start daily journals.  Also, I had them draw a picture and then describe it in three or four sentences, as age appropriate.  For reading we using Sing Spell Read and Write.  I got mine from www.ebay.com  used and it saved a lot of money.  I was lucky to find workbooks that were not used.

I have known several people who have chosen A Beka and have loved it.  This is a Christian based curriculum which helps to instill certain Christian values while teaching regular school courses.  I found their pricing to be wonderful!

If you have a recommendation for curriculum or a method that has worked for your family or someone you know please share it with us.
