Maryland Field Trips
As this page grows we would love to know what residents of Maryland have done for field trips. Just contact us to share your ideas.
Some great ideas are very simple. The library gives you the world at your fingertips. It is amazing how many people home school and yet do not frequent their local library. One mother told me that she lives in an area where there are several libraries and she finds it fun to take her children to different libraries in the area. Great idea!
If you live near state parks or national parks these are a great resource. We have found the the park rangers are more than willing to give tours or to teach children anything that you can imagine.

Flag Pond Nature Park Only open on weekends from October to April. Nominal fee of $4 to $6 per vehicle.
"Flag Ponds Nature Park in Lusby, Maryland is one of three public beaches on the Chesapeake Bay in Calvert County. Visitors frequently find ancient fossils deposited from the Calvert Cliffs. Several miles of trails lead you through a variety of habitats from upland forest, wooded swamps, open marshes and to the beach dune community typical of the Eastern Shore or the Carolinas'. The half-mile walk to the beach takes you past relics of a pound net fishery operation from the early 1950's. "
