Let's Homeschool Success Stories!
This is our sixth year of homeschooling . My son is beginning eighth grade
and my daughter first. We have met several families that homeschool whom we
get together with for field trips and projects but do not have anyone with
the same ages locally; most of their friends are within twenty minutes. I
started out wanting to be a public school teacher and finally finished college
the year my daughter was born. I did my student teaching in first grade
and high school special ed English. I taught for half the year while I was
pregnant and as much as I loved working with the kids, I hated the politics of
the business. I had to use the materials the school provided regardless of
how they worked. I even had a few times where i felt my life had been
threatened and not backed up by the administration. My son, while in
school, came home everyday for two years sick because of mold and other
conditions that led to our school being a 'sick building' . He was also
having trouble with a few kids bullying him. Can you imagine having to
tell your 6 year old to suck it up when he was being grabbed by the throat and
picked on by bigger kids?.
Homeschooling for us has been a dream. I can use a variety of materials and
techniques and teach to their interests. We have become a family and been
able to incorporate our beliefs into our education. Some days, like today, when
the kids fought me about working I wondered if I had made the right choice. When
I look at the great experiences they and I have had I know it has all been worth
it!
